Youll Never Believe What Dax Shepard Did Next

Dax Shepard

Acting couple Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are once again embroiled in some weird, inconsequential controversy over something they said about their lives or something that happened to them, and they seem a little tired of the whole deal.

On a recent episode of Shepard’s podcast “Armchair Expert, ” the two of them complained about the overblown response to their story of getting stranded at and then kicked out of an airport following mass flight delays and cancellations.

Stories just like this have become increasingly common as corporate greed and bad weather (also due to corporate greed) increase, but for some reason, people just didn’t believe it when it happened to the celebrity pair.

Dax Shepard To Anna Kendrick: Kristen Bell Is Jealous Of 1 Person, 'and It's You'

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell received backlash after documenting their experience of getting stranded at the airport earlier this summer. Now, the couple is speaking out about the negative comments they received. https://t.co/Rr2wWzK0D9— NBC News (@NBCNews) August 16, 2023

Over two weeks ago, Shepard posted an Instagram video showing how they had laid out blankets and pillows on the floor of an airport terminal because their flight had been delayed, no others were available, and all the nearby hotels had been booked. The actor claimed that every hotel within a 50-mile radius was full, so they decided to spend around $600 on bedding for themselves and their two young daughters to hang out until they could finally fly out of there.

Unfortunately, after they’d done all that, they were informed that they couldn’t stay in the terminal because it was closing. They ended up staying in the attic of “friends of friends” for the night and reported that they had a great time. Neither celebrity really complained or seemed all that stressed, but other people sure got worked up about their story.

Kristen Bell Believes No Topic Is 'taboo' To Discuss With Her Kids

Some very online people quickly took issues with parts of the story, including the idea that all hotels were booked up in the 50-mile area around the Boston airport, pointing out that there are a large number of these businesses in the area. There was speculation that the couple turned their noses up at anything other than high-end rooms that would appeal to their wealthy lifestyle.

Others refused to believe that anyone would spend $600 on bedding, forgetting that celebrities like Bell and Shepard are indeed rich and $600 is nothing to them.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to say that Bell and Shepard would turn down a standard hotel room, or even a low-budget one, in favor of sleeping on an airport terminal floor. On the podcast, they further explained that the reason so many rooms had been booked is that they were not the only ones who had been hit with flight delays and cancellations.

Dax Shepard Says He Relapsed After 16 Years Of Sobriety

“Everyone knew before us [that their flights were canceled] because they kept kicking ours, ” Dax explained. “So by the time we acknowledge, ‘No, this flight isn’t going out tonight, ’ everyone’s already grabbed the hotel rooms.”

Both of them went on to discuss why people get so worked up and scrutinize every aspect of an innocuous story like their airport saga, with Bell suggesting that many suffer from “outrage addiction.”

“A lot of people just get on the internet and they say, ‘Buddy, what should I Google?’ And they just Google angry, mad stuff, ” she said. “They want to be angry about something.”

Shepard went on to speculate that the overblown reaction to their story was related to the intense political divide that has emerged in the U.S. and other nations.

“It was so hostile and angry that I thought, ‘This has to be part of the political schism, ’” he suggested. “We have to somehow just represent liberals. And no matter what we would do, it would be proof that we’re crazy or stupid or whatever. It felt like there’s something political.”podcast on Thursday, the 45-year-old took a break from doing great celeb interviews to reveal his famous streak had come to an end as he relapsed by abusing Vicodin and Oxycontin pills. And shockingly, the 16 years itself was a bit of a lie as well — as he was even high during his celebration of that milestone!

Comedian

You may recall the actor has been recovering from an August motorcycle accident and being taken care of by wife Kristen Bell, but that was not the beginning of Dax’s latest struggle. It’s been going on a lot longer…

Armchair Expert': Best Episode Of Dax Shepard's Podcast

All started in 2012 during his late father’s battle with cancer. Dax detailed that he had been traveling back and forth to be with his dad during treatment, and suffered a motorcycle accident while en route to the set of

“Eight years into sobriety, I had not done a single shady thing. I hadn’t done anything gray… I immediately called my sponsor, and I said, ‘I’m in a ton of pain and I gotta work all day. And we have friends that have Vicodin.’ He said, ‘OK, you can take a couple Vicodin to get through the day of work, but you have to go to the doctor, and you have to get a prescription, and then you have to have Kristen dole out the prescription.'”

He followed the guidance, but not for long. After traveling without the pills because his wife, who was pregnant at the time, would not be with him to visit his dying father, Dax went without. But when his ailing father had to take a Percocet, Dax reasoned he could join him — after all, he had a prescription for painkillers, too:

“You know, we had so little in common and so much f**king friction. But the no. 1 thing we had in common was we were both f**king addicts and we had never used anything together. And we sat there stoned and looked at the lake. And in that moment, I felt elation and I was just happy.”

But it wasn’t his medication and not under the direction he was supposed to take it. He admitted to his co-host that he took twice as much he needed — because he didn’t want to get rid of the pain. Dax wanted to get high.

Kristen

After Kristen surprised him at his dad’s hospital, he confessed to taking the drugs, and she helped him get back on track:

Dax Shepard's Relapse Reminds Us Recovery Is A Daily Process

“That was eight years ago. I’ve now had this experience where I did that, I felt bad, but there wasn’t any fallout from it. It was like, I felt bad, I said I felt bad, and then I did just move on and it was fine. That cycle happens maybe three or four more times. I feel shady, but I don’t feel like this is a problem. I didn’t desire more when the thing was over.”

That’s very important — the cycle recurring. Dax has undergone about seven surgeries in the last few years, and has been allowed to take opiates to relieve the pain, but only under strict supervision. And each time he pushed it more and more. He stashed the ones Kristen gave him at night so he could take extra the next day — again, enough to get high. And this went on for a very long time.

He had been justifying his using to himself, as addicts do — and only really noticed a few months ago he was “getting shadier and shadier” with his opioid usage — until he was just buying and using Oxycontin with no prescription at all:

“And I’ve not ever yet bought them. And then I do… For the last eight weeks maybe, I don’t know… I’m on them all day. I’m allowed to be on them at some dosage because I have a prescription. And then I’m also augmenting that. And then all the prescriptions run out and I’m now just taking 30 mil Oxys that I’ve bought whenever I decide I can do [it].”

Star confessed (below) that he believed all of his day-to-day responsibilities were being managed, so he did not think anyone had noticed. But the truth is, as he later realized, he was gaslighting Monica AND Kristen.

Kristen

“And I’m lying to other people and I know I have to quit. But my tolerance is going up so quickly that I’m now in a situation where I’m taking, you know, eight 30s a day, and I know that’s an amount that’s going to result in a pretty bad withdrawal. And I start getting really scared, and I’m starting to feel really lonely. And I just have this enormous secret.”

At this point Dax knew he had a problem. He tried to fix the situation himself, making a schedule to ween off of the pills — but he couldn’t follow through:

So instead of lowering his dosage, he just kept going — knowing he would only spiral more and more when he ran out.

It was then, just two over weeks ago, that he realized he needed to be honest. He was in the car with Monica when he knew he couldn’t lie anymore, because as he put it:
